Taking It All Apart
[ Back ] [ Next ]
Now that the easily removed components are off, the Flying Shoe ready to be
broken into its three major parts:
Tail
|
Tubes
|
Front
|
 |
 |
oops, no photo
|
To do so, I did the following:
| Collapsed the telescoping seat masts |
The seat masts telescope down into the seat tubes. It's hard to
think of a benefit to removing them. |
| Disconnected the derailleur, 3-speed, and rear
brake cables |
Since the Flying Shoe is normally a seven speed, I installed the 3x7
wheel from Spud and a spare shifter for this trip. Because of this
the cable does not have a splitter, and I simply removed the entire cable
from the bike. All of the cable stops are split, so this is really a
very small chore. The other cables have nice splitters in them to
facilitate this step. |
| Loosened the trombone
connectors |
Loosen all of the bolts on all of the connectors. After everything
has been taken apart, tighten them up just a little so that they don't fall out in
shipping. |
| Separated the front and
rear sections |
Make sure you have something soft under the two sections so that they
don't get dinged when the come apart and hit the ground! Better yet,
have your stoker standing by to help catch the sections as they start to
topple over. |
| Removed the stoker top
and bottom tubes |
When it is time to reassemble, I found it easiest to insert the tubes
into the front section, tighten them, and then slide the rear section into
the exposed ends. |
Now that we have a pile of parts, it's time to fit them into their suitcases:
