Shoebox Bicycle

The Flying Shoe is a Family Tandem Traveler and is designed to fit into two airline friendly suitcases.   We bought the Shoe without suitcases since we already had two suitable cases on hand.

Turn them over to the gorillasGreen Gear has sold two different suitcases.  They are made by Samsonite and Carlton, and we own one of each.  In the photo, the Carlton is on the right.  It is easy to distinguish from the Samsonite due to its colored inserts and latches.  It is easily the bigger and nicer of the two.

When it came time to travel to New England for two weeks in 1999, I set to work packing the Shoe into its two suitcases.  I have packed several different Bike Fridays into both types of cases and predicted the the job would go smoothly.  Please keep in mind that nothing written here is authorized or sanctioned by Green Gear Cycling.  I don't even know if this is how the Flying Shoe was designed to be packed.

What has to fit into those two suitcases!

Everything here needs to fit into those two suitcases.  Will it really fit?

If you spot an error here, or know something about the packing procedure that I don't, please send me an e-mail and let me know!
